I have found some real surplus bargains at hamfests over the years. Guys just trying to clean the basement of items that were bought for some nebulous project that never quite materialized.( Who Me?)
I do have and regularly operate a PRC-47(Collins 100watt HF transceiver) that I bought at the Chattanooga Hamfest at about half the Fair Radio price.
So good deals can be found.
73's n gud luck!

Fair Radio Sales is still the best place I can think of. They have a secret - if it isn't in the catalog, or it isn't on the web page, either email them or stop by cuz they just may have it.

Another good source? Ebay!!! Search for it, don't just look under a category. Search using commonly misspelled words or look for poorly worded descriptions. The latter netted me an *as new* Central Electronics modulation monitor for around $20 while there were two other at auction that eventually sold for ten times that.

But avoid buying "Collins Headphones" on Ebay. The ones that sell for $50+ can be had from Fair Radio for $15 new and the ones that go for around $30 (the H-113 or 116) are still used at 3/$12 last I checked. Best I can figure is that collectors these days know nothing about military surplus prices.

Usually if it has "Collins" as a selling point *period* AVOID IT, unless you're a Collins collector or the price is sane.

If you count All Electronics as "surplus" it's taken them 3 tries just to get me 2 power cords!! Long story, but they used to be much better. For those not familiar with they, they have "modern" surplus junk.

Another Good Guy is Mike Murphy at Murphy's Surplus. Been buying from him for years and never had a problem. The folks there are very helpful...

Looks like my 2 cents added up to a dollar...
